Tony Hughes (American football)

Tony Hughes is an American football coach and former player. He currently serves as the tight ends coach at Mississippi State University, a position he assumed in 2023.

Hughes has a long and varied coaching career spanning multiple levels of college football. Before his tenure at Mississippi State, he held various roles, including head coach, assistant coach, and special teams coordinator, at institutions such as Southern Illinois University, where he served as head coach from 2008 to 2015.

Prior to becoming a coach, Hughes played college football as a defensive back. His playing experience provided him with a foundation for his subsequent coaching career.

Hughes is known for his recruiting abilities and his commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Throughout his career, he has mentored numerous players who have gone on to professional football careers.
