Lord George Cavendish (died 1794)

Lord George Cavendish (died 1794) was a British nobleman and politician. He was the third son of William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire, and his wife Catherine, daughter of John Hoskins.

Cavendish served as Member of Parliament for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis from 1751 to 1754, for Lostwithiel from 1754 to 1761, and for Derby from 1761 until his death in 1794.

He held the office of Comptroller of the Household from 1762 to 1765. He was also a Lord of the Treasury from 1765 to 1766.

Lord George Cavendish married Elizabeth Compton, daughter of Charles Compton, 7th Earl of Northampton, in 1759. They had several children, including William Cavendish, who later became the 6th Duke of Devonshire.

Lord George Cavendish was a prominent figure in Whig politics and a supporter of the Rockingham Whigs. His political career spanned several decades, during which he held various important government positions. He was known for his integrity and commitment to public service.
