Big Thing (Duran Duran album)
Big Thing is the fifth studio album by British new wave band Duran Duran, released in November 1988. Following the experimental and commercially disappointing Notorious (1986), Big Thing saw the band shift further towards a more electronic and experimental sound, incorporating elements of house music and acid house, which were emerging at the time.
The album spawned several singles, including "I Don't Want Your Love," which became a significant hit, and "All She Wants Is," which featured a music video that explored themes of gender fluidity and androgyny. Other notable tracks included "Do You Believe In Shame?" and "Palomino."
Big Thing marked a period of evolution and experimentation for Duran Duran, departing from their earlier new romantic sound. While the album achieved platinum certification in the United States, it generally received mixed reviews at the time of its release. However, it has since been reappraised by some critics and fans as a significant work in the band's discography, showcasing their willingness to explore new musical directions. The album also reflects the cultural landscape of the late 1980s, influenced by the burgeoning electronic music scene and broader social trends. The album's artwork, featuring abstract and geometric designs, also contributed to its overall aesthetic and identity.
