Gordon Savage (bishop)
Gordon Savage (born October 6, 1948) is a retired bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States. He served as the VIII Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas from 2002 until his retirement in 2017.
Savage received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the diaconate in 1973 and to the priesthood in 1974.
Prior to his election as bishop, Savage served in various parishes throughout the Diocese of West Texas, including St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio. He also served as Archdeacon of the diocese.
As bishop, Savage oversaw the spiritual and administrative affairs of the Diocese of West Texas, which encompasses a large geographical area in South and Central Texas. His episcopacy was marked by a focus on outreach and ministry to underserved communities, as well as efforts to promote reconciliation and healing within the diocese. He also emphasized the importance of Christian formation and discipleship.
Since his retirement, Savage has remained active in the Episcopal Church, providing support and counsel to clergy and laity.
