Lyrosoma
Lyrosoma is a genus of mites belonging to the family Parasitidae. These mites are typically found in soil and decaying organic matter, where they play a role in decomposition and nutrient cycling. They are characterized by their distinctive lyre-shaped body, from which the genus name is derived (lyro- referring to the lyre shape, and -soma referring to body).
Lyrosoma mites are relatively small, typically measuring less than a millimeter in length. They possess a heavily sclerotized (hardened) exoskeleton, which provides protection against environmental stressors. They feed primarily on small invertebrates, fungi, and decaying organic matter.
Further research is needed to fully understand the distribution, ecology, and behavior of the various species within the Lyrosoma genus. Identification of species within the genus can be challenging and typically requires microscopic examination of morphological features.
