USS Emery

The USS Emery (DE-28) was an Edsall-class destroyer escort built for the United States Navy during World War II. She was named after Rear Admiral Albert S. Emery.

Emery was laid down on 20 March 1942 by Consolidated Steel Corporation, Orange, Texas; launched on 27 July 1942; sponsored by Mrs. A. S. Emery, widow of Rear Admiral Emery; and commissioned on 10 November 1942, Lieutenant Commander H. E. Hubbard, USNR, in command.

During her service, Emery primarily performed convoy escort duty in the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. She participated in several major convoy operations, protecting Allied shipping from German U-boats.

On 22 March 1944, while escorting Convoy UGS-36, Emery engaged and sank the German submarine U-223 off the coast of Algeria. This action earned her a battle star.

After the war, Emery was decommissioned on 21 June 1946 and placed in reserve. She was struck from the Navy List on 1 July 1972 and sold for scrap on 12 April 1973.

USS Emery received one battle star for her World War II service.
