Al Michaels (American football coach)
Al Michaels (born November 12, 1944) is a highly acclaimed American television sportscaster, best known for his play-by-play commentary of National Football League (NFL) games. While he has covered a variety of sports throughout his career, including baseball, basketball, and hockey, his association with NFL football is particularly prominent.
Michaels began his broadcasting career in 1964 and gained national recognition for his work with ABC Sports. He famously called the "Miracle on Ice" hockey game at the 1980 Winter Olympics, considered one of the greatest moments in sports history.
He joined ABC's Monday Night Football in 1986 and became the voice of the program for two decades. In 2006, Michaels moved to NBC to become the play-by-play announcer for Sunday Night Football, where he remained until 2022. He has since joined Amazon Prime Video to broadcast Thursday Night Football.
Michaels's broadcasting style is characterized by his sharp wit, insightful commentary, and ability to capture the drama and excitement of the game. He is known for his signature catchphrases and his extensive knowledge of sports history. He has won numerous Emmy Awards for his sportscasting work and is widely regarded as one of the greatest sports announcers of all time.
