Zhang Lie

Zhang Lie (張烈) was a minor historical figure who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty and Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. He is primarily known for his association with Zhang Yan, a prominent leader of the Heishan bandits (also known as the Black Mountain bandits). Historical records regarding Zhang Lie are scant and fragmented, with his existence primarily documented through mentions in biographies of other, more influential figures.

According to historical accounts, Zhang Lie served as a subordinate or advisor to Zhang Yan. The Heishan bandits controlled a large swathe of territory in the Taihang Mountains and posed a significant challenge to the Han government. Zhang Lie's specific role within Zhang Yan's organization remains unclear due to the limited historical details available. He is often portrayed as one of Zhang Yan's trusted lieutenants.

After Cao Cao gained dominance in the north, Zhang Yan eventually submitted to him, bringing many of his followers, including Zhang Lie, under Cao Cao's command. This submission marked a turning point for the Heishan bandits, integrating them into the larger political and military landscape of the era. The subsequent fate of Zhang Lie after joining Cao Cao's forces is largely undocumented. He disappears from historical records after this point, leaving his later activities and ultimate fate unknown. His significance lies primarily in his connection to the more well-documented history of Zhang Yan and the Heishan bandits.
