INS Akshay

INS Akshay (P35) was an Abhay-class corvette of the Indian Navy. Corvettes are small warships typically used for coastal patrol and anti-submarine warfare. The Abhay-class corvettes, of which INS Akshay was a member, were designed and built in India.

INS Akshay was commissioned into service in the Indian Navy in December 1991. During her service, she participated in various naval exercises and operations aimed at safeguarding India's maritime interests. She was equipped with a range of sensors and weapons systems designed to detect and engage submarines. This included sonar, anti-submarine rockets, and torpedoes. She also possessed surface-to-surface missiles for engaging surface targets.

INS Akshay was decommissioned from the Indian Navy in June 2023 after more than 31 years of service. Her decommissioning marked the end of an era for the vessel and her crew. Following decommissioning, naval vessels are often scrapped, preserved as museum ships, or repurposed for other uses. The ultimate fate of INS Akshay remains to be determined.
