James Wallace (minister)
James Wallace (1684-1724) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister and author. He served as the minister of the Tron Kirk in Edinburgh from 1711 until his death.
Wallace is best known for his work, A Description of the Isles of Orkney, published posthumously in 1725. This book provides a valuable historical and geographical account of the Orkney Islands, based on Wallace's own research and observations. It covers topics such as the islands' natural history, agriculture, customs, and antiquities.
Wallace's work is considered a significant contribution to the understanding of 18th-century Orkney. He also published sermons and religious treatises. He was married to Christian Turnbull.
