Brilliant Corners (James Spaulding album)

Brilliant Corners is a 1968 jazz album by alto saxophonist James Spaulding. It is not to be confused with the 1957 album of the same name by Thelonious Monk. The album was released on the Muse Records label. Spaulding's Brilliant Corners features a quartet comprising Spaulding, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Mickey Roker. The album's repertoire includes original compositions by Spaulding and Walton, as well as selections from the standard jazz repertoire. Critically, Spaulding's Brilliant Corners is considered a solid, if somewhat overlooked, example of post-bop jazz, showcasing Spaulding's virtuosic alto saxophone playing and strong compositional skills. It highlights the interplay between the musicians and the overall cohesion of the quartet. The album has been reissued on CD and continues to be available to jazz enthusiasts.
