Joe Byrne (Canadian politician)
Joe Byrne (born c. 1947) is a Canadian politician from Newfoundland and Labrador. He served as a Member of the House of Assembly (MHA) for the district of Cape St. Francis from 1993 to 2003.
Byrne was first elected in the 1993 provincial election as a Liberal. He served in various cabinet positions during his time in government under Premiers Clyde Wells and Brian Tobin, including Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. He also served as Government House Leader.
In the 2003 election, Byrne was defeated by Danny Dumaresque of the Progressive Conservative Party. Following his political career, he has remained active in community initiatives.
