Baree, Son of Kazan (1925 film)

Baree, Son of Kazan is a 1925 American silent adventure film directed by David Smith and starring Anita Stewart. It is based on the novel Baree, Son of Kazan by James Oliver Curwood.

The film tells the story of Baree, a wolf-dog hybrid pup who is orphaned in the Canadian wilderness. He is befriended by a young woman, Nepeese, an Indigenous woman, and they form a close bond. Baree faces numerous challenges as he grows, encountering danger from both the wild and from humans. He demonstrates loyalty and bravery, ultimately proving himself a worthy companion.

The film is a typical example of early 20th-century animal adventure stories, emphasizing the bond between humans and animals and showcasing the beauty and danger of the natural world. While popular in its time, like many silent films, it is relatively obscure today. Preservation status and availability are uncertain, and existing prints may be incomplete or of poor quality. It is not to be confused with the 1918 version of the same name.
