George Washington Ball (Iowa Democrat)
George Washington Ball (1848 – 1918) was an American politician and lawyer from Iowa. A Democrat, Ball served in the Iowa House of Representatives and the Iowa Senate.
Born in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, Ball moved to Iowa in 1869 and settled in Iowa City. He was admitted to the Iowa bar and practiced law.
Ball was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1888, representing Johnson County. He served one term, from 1888 to 1890. He was then elected to the Iowa Senate in 1890, representing the 26th district. He served in the Senate until 1898.
During his time in the Iowa legislature, Ball was involved in various committees, including judiciary and appropriations. Details of his specific legislative achievements are limited by available records, but he was known as a proponent of progressive policies within the Democratic party in Iowa.
Ball was also a prominent figure in local Iowa City politics and civic life. After his political career, he continued to practice law in Iowa City until his death in 1918. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City.
