Gentle on My Mind (Patti Page album)
Gentle on My Mind is a studio album by American country and pop singer Patti Page, released in 1968 on Columbia Records. The album is named for the title track, "Gentle on My Mind," a song written by John Hartford that became a major hit for Glen Campbell the previous year. Page's version is a more traditional country arrangement compared to Campbell's, featuring prominent pedal steel guitar and fiddle.
The album consists primarily of country and folk-influenced songs, including covers of popular tracks by artists such as Bob Dylan ("I Shall Be Released"), Kris Kristofferson ("For the Good Times"), and Merle Haggard ("The Bottle Let Me Down"). It also includes some original compositions.
Gentle on My Mind showcases Page's smooth vocals and her ability to interpret a wide range of material. While not one of her biggest-selling albums, it's considered a solid entry in her discography and demonstrates her connection to the country music scene of the late 1960s. The album was released at a time when country music was increasingly crossing over into the pop charts, and Page's album reflects this trend. The album received generally positive reviews for its song selection and Page's vocal performances.
