Chimarra

Chimarra is a genus of caddisflies in the family Philopotamidae. These small, net-spinning caddisflies are found globally, inhabiting running water environments such as streams and rivers. Larvae of Chimarra species construct fine-meshed, bag-like nets to filter organic particles from the water column, serving as important filter feeders in aquatic ecosystems. Adult Chimarra are typically inconspicuous, moth-like insects that are often attracted to light. Identification to the species level often requires microscopic examination of male genitalia.
