Paul Banks (English musician)

Paul Banks (born Paul Julian Banks, February 3, 1978) is an English-American musician best known as the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, and songwriter of the indie rock band Interpol.

Banks was born in England but spent his childhood moving between England, Spain, and Mexico before settling in the United States. He attended New York University, where he studied English Literature and met future Interpol bandmates Daniel Kessler and Carlos Dengler.

Interpol rose to prominence in the early 2000s with their debut album Turn on the Bright Lights (2002), which was critically acclaimed for its atmospheric and melancholic sound, often drawing comparisons to post-punk bands like Joy Division. Banks' baritone vocals and distinctive songwriting style are integral to Interpol's signature sound.

Beyond Interpol, Banks has also released solo material under the name Julian Plenti, exploring a more introspective and experimental sound. He has released two albums under this moniker: Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper (2009) and Julian Plenti Lives... (2012). Additionally, he has collaborated with RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan on the project Banks & Steelz, releasing the album Anything But Words in 2016.

Banks continues to be active with Interpol, releasing albums and touring internationally. He is known for his enigmatic stage presence and his contributions to the alternative music scene.
