Ministry of Justice (China)

The Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China (中华人民共和国司法部) is a ministry of the State Council responsible for legal affairs. Its primary responsibilities include the administration of justice, legal aid, judicial examination, and the management of prisons and re-education through labor (although the latter function is being phased out).

The Ministry plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of legal policies and regulations. It oversees the training and licensing of lawyers, notaries, and other legal professionals. It also supervises the work of lawyers and law firms.

Specifically, the Ministry of Justice is responsible for:

  • Drafting and reviewing laws and regulations related to justice administration.
  • Overseeing the implementation of the national legal aid system.
  • Organizing and implementing the national judicial examination.
  • Managing prisons, detention centers, and re-education facilities.
