Geisshorn

A Geisshorn is a traditional Swiss wind instrument. It is typically a long, slightly curved horn made from the horn of a goat (Geiss in German). Historically, Geisshorns were used by herdsmen in the Swiss Alps to communicate with each other across valleys, to call livestock, and sometimes for celebratory purposes.

The sound produced by a Geisshorn is similar to that of an alphorn, though generally higher-pitched and less resonant due to the smaller size and material. The instrument has no finger holes; pitch is controlled entirely by the player's embouchure.

Geisshorns are often associated with alpine folk music and traditions. While less common than alphorns, they remain a part of Swiss cultural heritage and are sometimes played at festivals and celebrations. Modern variations may incorporate different materials, but the fundamental design and purpose remain the same.
