Bansi Lal
Bansi Lal (1927 – 2006) was an Indian politician and a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress party. He served as the Chief Minister of Haryana three times: 1968-1975, 1986-1987, and 1996-1999.
Lal played a significant role in the development of Haryana, particularly in the areas of rural electrification, infrastructure development, and agricultural advancements. He is often credited with transforming the state and improving the living standards of its residents. During his first tenure as Chief Minister, Haryana achieved significant progress in its economy and social infrastructure.
Beyond his Chief Ministerial roles, Bansi Lal also held important portfolios in the central government. He served as the Defence Minister of India during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and also held the position of Railway Minister.
Later in his political career, he formed the Haryana Vikas Party (HVP), which later merged back with the Indian National Congress. Bansi Lal remained an influential figure in Haryana politics for several decades.
