Little River (South Carolina)

Little River is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. Situated along the Intracoastal Waterway near the North Carolina border, it is part of the Myrtle Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Historically, Little River was a small fishing village and trading post. Its name is derived from the short river that flows into the Intracoastal Waterway at the town's center. The area's economy was traditionally based on seafood harvesting, particularly shrimp and oysters, and related industries like boat building.

In recent decades, Little River has experienced significant growth as a residential and tourist destination. Its proximity to the beaches of the Grand Strand, combined with a more laid-back atmosphere than the nearby Myrtle Beach, has attracted both retirees and families. The town features numerous golf courses, seafood restaurants, and boating facilities.

Little River hosts the annual Blue Crab Festival, a popular event attracting thousands of visitors to celebrate the local seafood industry.
