Tom Nyuma

Tom Nyuma (born c. 1972) is a Sierra Leonean former military officer and politician. He is best known for his role as a leader in the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) during the Sierra Leone Civil War (1991-2002).

Nyuma, also known as "Captain Savage," was a prominent field commander within the RUF. He was a key figure in the early years of the conflict, participating in numerous attacks on towns and villages. Accusations of human rights abuses, including killings, mutilations, and the recruitment of child soldiers, have been made against him and the forces under his command.

Following the Lomé Peace Accord in 1999, Nyuma transitioned to politics. He became a Member of Parliament representing the Kailahun District. He later served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He has been involved in various peacebuilding initiatives in Sierra Leone after the war.

His role during the civil war remains controversial. While he has participated in post-conflict reconciliation efforts, his past actions continue to be scrutinized and debated.
