Ferraiolo

A ferraiolo is a type of ecclesiastical cape, typically sleeveless, that reaches to the ankles. It is worn by clergy in the Catholic Church, primarily for non-liturgical functions or ceremonies outside of formal liturgical services.

The ferraiolo is made of silk or wool and is usually black, though other colors are sometimes seen depending on the rank of the cleric. Cardinals, for example, may wear a scarlet ferraiolo. The ferraiolo is often worn over the cassock and may be accessorized with a biretta.
