National Highway 87 (India)
National Highway 87 (NH 87) was a National Highway in India. It connected Rampur in Uttar Pradesh to Kathgodam in Uttarakhand. It had a total length of 82 kilometers (51 miles).
Route:
The highway primarily ran through the states of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Specific towns and cities connected included Rampur, Bilaspur, Rudrapur, and Kathgodam.
Status:
NH 87 no longer exists as a designated National Highway. In the rationalization of National Highway numbers undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in 2010, NH 87 was absorbed into a new National Highway, primarily NH 109. The section of the road still exists physically but now carries a different designation.
Importance (Historical):
Prior to its renumbering, NH 87 served as an important route for traffic traveling between Uttar Pradesh and the hill stations of Uttarakhand, particularly the Kumaon region. It provided a connection to destinations such as Nainital and Almora. It facilitated the movement of goods and passengers, supporting tourism and regional trade.
