Paul Benson (judge)

Paul Benson (1918 – 2003) was a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota.

Born in Bowdon, North Dakota, Benson received a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1946. He was in private practice in Minot, North Dakota from 1947 to 1971.

On October 5, 1971, Benson was nominated by President Richard Nixon to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of North Dakota vacated by Judge Ronald Davies. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on October 21, 1971, and received his commission on October 22, 1971. He served as Chief Judge from 1981 to 1985, assuming senior status on December 31, 1985. He served in senior status until his death in Fargo, North Dakota.
