Wu Yi (Three Kingdoms)

Wu Yi (伍壹), courtesy name Zishi (子石), was a military general who served under the warlord Liu Zhang during the late Eastern Han dynasty and later under Liu Bei during the Three Kingdoms period of China.

Originally a subordinate of Liu Zhang in Yi Province (covering present-day Sichuan), Wu Yi defected to Liu Bei when the latter invaded Yi Province in 214 CE. Impressed by Wu Yi's capabilities and trustworthiness, Liu Bei appointed him as a general.

After Liu Bei declared himself emperor and established the state of Shu Han in 221 CE, Wu Yi continued to serve under him. He participated in the early campaigns against the state of Cao Wei, one of Shu Han's rival states. He is noted for his amicable relationship with the general Zhao Yun, helping to mediate potential conflicts and ensuring cooperation between them.

Following Liu Bei's death in 223 CE, Wu Yi served under Liu Bei's successor, Liu Shan. He remained a loyal and competent general, contributing to the defense of Shu Han's borders. Specific details of his later accomplishments and date of death are scarce in historical records. However, Wu Yi is remembered as a skilled general who successfully transitioned his allegiance and served with distinction under both Liu Zhang and Liu Bei.
