Ropuchy

Ropuchy (plural of ropucha) is the Polish word for toads. It refers to amphibians belonging to the family Bufonidae, characterized by their warty skin, stocky bodies, and short legs, adapted for hopping rather than jumping. Ropuchy are typically terrestrial and often found in damp environments, but can tolerate drier conditions than many other amphibians. They are generally nocturnal and feed on insects and other small invertebrates.

The term ropuchy encompasses various species found in Poland and elsewhere, including the common toad (Bufo bufo), the green toad (Bufotes viridis), and others. These animals play an important role in their ecosystems as both predators and prey. They are also often associated with folklore and mythology in Polish culture and other European traditions.

Due to habitat loss, pollution, and other environmental factors, many species of ropuchy are facing population declines and are protected by law in various regions. Conservation efforts are often focused on preserving their breeding grounds and ensuring the availability of suitable habitat.
