George Hamilton (1699 moderator)
George Hamilton (fl. late 17th century) was an Irish Presbyterian minister and academic who served as moderator of the Synod of Ulster in 1699. Little is definitively known about his early life or ministerial career outside of his involvement with the Synod. The Synod of Ulster was the main governing body for Presbyterian congregations in the northern province of Ireland. The role of moderator was a significant one, entailing presiding over the Synod's meetings, guiding discussions, and representing the body in various capacities. Hamilton's selection as moderator in 1699 indicates he was a respected and influential figure within the Presbyterian community at the time. Records of the Synod meetings from that year might provide further details on Hamilton's views and contributions, but detailed biographical information remains scarce.
