Communist Party of the Canary Islands (provisional)
The Communist Party of the Canary Islands (provisional) (Spanish: Partido Comunista de Canarias (provisional) or PCC(p)) is a communist political party in the Canary Islands, Spain. It is a splinter group from the Communist Party of the Canary Islands (PCC), which in turn is the Canarian federation of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE).
The PCC(p) emerged advocating for a more radical and independent line than the PCC. Key differences generally revolve around the level of autonomy sought from the PCE and a perceived lack of commitment by the PCC to Canarian nationalism and self-determination.
The party's ideology is Marxist-Leninist, advocating for a socialist transformation of society and greater social justice within the Canary Islands. It typically focuses on issues affecting the working class, such as unemployment, poverty, and access to education and healthcare. The PCC(p) supports Canarian national liberation and the right to self-determination for the islands, potentially including independence from Spain.
The PCC(p) has generally been a small political force, with limited electoral success in regional or national elections. It often works in alliance with other left-wing and nationalist groups in the Canary Islands. Information regarding its current activities and organizational structure can be challenging to find, reflecting its relatively limited size and resources. The "provisional" designation in the party's name reflects a historical situation or difference within the party that has persisted over time. The exact reasons for the continued use of "provisional" are not widely publicized, but it likely relates to an unresolved internal conflict or a strategic decision related to the party's objectives and political positioning.
