Flash (juggling)

In juggling, a flash refers to a type of juggling pattern or a specific throw within a pattern where each object is thrown and caught only once. This is in contrast to a sustained pattern where objects are thrown and caught multiple times, creating a repeating cycle. A flash often serves as a starting point for learning a more complex, continuous pattern. It demonstrates the basic hand movements and throw heights necessary before attempting to keep the pattern going. The term also commonly applies to a single round of throws in a pattern usually thrown continuously. For example, one might flash a five-ball cascade.
