Thomas Northmore (politician)
Thomas Northmore (1766 – 28 July 1851) was a British Whig politician and writer.
Northmore was the son of Thomas Northmore, of Cleve House, Devon, and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Teed. He was educated at Tiverton Grammar School and Trinity College, Oxford, graduating BA in 1788 and MA in 1791. He inherited Cleve House upon his father's death.
He served as Member of Parliament for Truro from 1806 to 1807. He was elected at a by-election in May 1806 following the death of John Lemon, but did not stand for re-election at the general election later that year. His political views were aligned with the Whig party.
Beyond politics, Northmore was a writer and scholar. He published several works, including "Memoirs of Planetes, or, A Sketch of the Laws and Manners of Makaronesia" (1795), and various pamphlets on theological and philosophical subjects. He was also involved in local affairs in Devon.
He married Elizabeth, daughter of William Hinde, in 1801. He died on 28 July 1851 at Cleve House.
