Celaeno (mythology): In Greek mythology, Celaeno (Ancient Greek: Κελαινώ, "the dark one") is the name of several figures:
- One of the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione. She was the wife of Poseidon and mother of Lycus and Eurypylus. Accounts vary as to her fate; some say she was struck by lightning, while others say she left her sisters out of shame for an affair she had with Poseidon, becoming a comet.
- A Harpy, described as a monstrous, winged spirit. She is often associated with darkness, storms, and punishment. Virgil mentions her in the Aeneid, where she prophesies hardship for the Trojans.
- A daughter of Ergeus.
