Dhumketu (writer)

Dhumketu (1892-1965) was the pen name of Gaurishankar Govardhanram Joshi, a prominent Gujarati language writer from Gujarat, India. He is best known for his short stories, which are characterized by their realistic portrayal of rural life and social issues. He is considered one of the pioneers of the short story genre in Gujarati literature.

Dhumketu wrote over 24 collections of short stories, along with novels, plays, and essays. His stories often explore themes of poverty, injustice, and the struggles of ordinary people. His writing style is simple yet evocative, capturing the nuances of human emotions and relationships. Some of his most famous short stories include "Post Office," "Revaa," and "Godhuli."

His literary contributions had a significant impact on Gujarati literature and continue to be widely read and appreciated today. He received several awards for his work, solidifying his position as a literary icon in Gujarat.
