Troy (card scheme)
Troy is the domestic card scheme of Turkey. It was launched in 2016 by Interbank Card Center of Turkey (BKM) with the aim of reducing Turkey's dependence on international payment networks like Visa and Mastercard.
Troy functions as both a debit and credit card scheme, enabling payment transactions at point-of-sale terminals, online platforms, and ATMs within Turkey and internationally, where acceptance agreements are in place. The scheme also aims to support the development of financial technologies and promote innovation in the payment industry within Turkey.
The Troy card scheme is integrated into a wider network, allowing its cards to be used across various Turkish financial institutions and merchants. This extensive network facilitates widespread adoption and usage of Troy cards within the country. BKM actively works to expand the global acceptance of Troy through partnerships with other international payment networks. The scheme is considered to be a significant component of Turkey's efforts to strengthen its domestic financial infrastructure and reduce reliance on foreign payment processors.
