Camp Cope
Camp Cope is an Australian indie rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 2015. The band consists of Georgia Maq (vocals, guitar, piano), Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich (bass guitar), and Sarah Thompson (drums). Known for their raw and honest songwriting, Camp Cope's music often tackles themes of sexism, abuse, and personal struggles within the music industry and broader society.
Their debut self-titled album, Camp Cope, was released in 2016 to critical acclaim, praised for its poignant lyrics and Maq's distinctive vocal delivery. Subsequent albums How to Socialise & Make Friends (2018) and Running with the Hurricane (2022) further cemented their status as an important voice in Australian and international indie music.
The band has been vocal advocates for inclusivity and safety at live music events, often addressing issues of harassment and promoting respectful behaviour amongst their fanbase. Camp Cope announced an indefinite hiatus in 2023, following a final tour. Their impact on the Australian music scene, particularly in promoting feminist perspectives and raising awareness of social issues, is widely acknowledged.
