Perthshire (Parliament of Scotland constituency)

Perthshire was a constituency of the Parliament of Scotland, electing one commissioner to represent the shire. It existed from 1667 until the union with the Parliament of England in 1707. The election of commissioners took place at the head burgh of Perth.

History

The Parliament of Scotland constituency was created as a result of the perceived under-representation of shires in the Scottish Parliament after the Restoration. Prior to 1667, Perthshire formed part of a larger constituency. Following the Act of Union 1707, Perthshire combined with Kinross-shire to form the Perthshire constituency of the Parliament of Great Britain.
