Mortdecai (film)
Mortdecai is a 2015 action comedy film directed by David Koepp and starring Johnny Depp in the title role. The film is based on the novel series "The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery" by Kyril Bonfiglioli.
The plot centers around Lord Charles Mortdecai, an eccentric and roguish art dealer and part-time rogue who is recruited by MI5 to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank vault filled with Nazi gold. Throughout his quest, Mortdecai must juggle dangerous international villains, a seductive wife (played by Gwyneth Paltrow), and the persistent advances of a brutish American billionaire.
The film features an ensemble cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Paul Bettany, and Jeff Goldblum.
Mortdecai was released on January 23, 2015, and received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, with many criticizing its humor, plot, and Depp's performance. It was also a box office bomb, grossing significantly less than its production budget.
