German submarine U-59 (1938)

The German submarine U-59 was a Type VIIA U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was laid down on 15 December 1937 by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg as yard number 518, launched on 23 September 1938, and commissioned on 22 November 1938 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Werner Winter.

U-59 participated in several patrols during the war. Her operational history included patrols in the Atlantic Ocean, where she engaged in commerce raiding, targeting Allied merchant shipping. While successful in sinking several ships, she also faced considerable risk, constantly under threat from Allied anti-submarine forces. Specific details regarding her patrols, targets sunk, and encounters with Allied vessels are available through more specialized naval history archives and sources.

Following the war, U-59, like many other German U-boats, was surrendered and subsequently scuttled as part of Operation Deadlight.

Further research is recommended to obtain more specific details about the U-59's operational history and individual missions. Information on her crew, losses suffered, and the specific vessels sunk remains somewhat scattered and requires consultation of primary historical sources.
