SummerSlam (1988)

SummerSlam (1988) was the inaugural SummerSlam professional wrestling pay-per-view event, produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). It took place on August 29, 1988, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event featured a card of professional wrestling matches involving wrestlers portraying pre-determined feuds and storylines.

The main event featured The Mega Powers (Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage) against The Mega Bucks (Ted DiBiase and André the Giant) with Jesse Ventura as the special guest referee. This match was the culmination of storylines involving DiBiase's attempts to buy the WWF Championship and the alliance between Hogan and Savage. Other notable matches included The Honky Tonk Man defending the WWF Intercontinental Championship against a mystery opponent, who was revealed to be The Ultimate Warrior, and The British Bulldogs versus The Rougeau Brothers.

SummerSlam (1988) was a commercial success for the WWF and is considered a landmark event in the history of professional wrestling, establishing SummerSlam as one of the "Big Four" pay-per-view events alongside WrestleMania, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble.
