Misfit (company)

Misfit was an American consumer electronics company founded in 2011 by Sonny Vu, Sridhar Iyengar, and John Sculley. It was primarily known for designing and manufacturing wearable activity trackers and smart home devices.

Misfit's initial product line focused on elegant, minimal activity trackers, distinguishing themselves from competitors with their sleek designs and emphasis on aesthetics. These trackers typically monitored steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, and sleep patterns.

In 2015, Misfit was acquired by Fossil Group. Following the acquisition, Misfit’s technology and design expertise were integrated into Fossil's existing portfolio of wearable devices. The Misfit brand name continued to be used for a period, producing new products and supporting existing customers.

Over time, Fossil Group shifted its focus, and the Misfit brand was largely phased out. While the original Misfit company no longer operates independently, its legacy remains in the broader wearable technology market, particularly in its contribution to design-focused activity trackers. The technology and talent acquired by Fossil Group continue to influence the company’s approach to wearable devices.
