Ministry of Science and Technology (China)
The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) (Chinese: 中华人民共和国科学技术部; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó Kēxué Jìshù Bù) is the central government ministry of the People's Republic of China responsible for formulating and implementing national strategies, policies, and plans for science and technology (S&T) development. Its core functions involve guiding and coordinating the country's S&T progress, promoting technological innovation, and fostering international cooperation in science and technology.
MOST oversees national research and development programs, including basic research, applied research, and experimental development. It also plays a key role in the development of high-tech industries, the promotion of scientific and technological achievements, and the construction of national innovation systems. The ministry manages national laboratories, research institutions, and high-tech development zones.
Organizationally, MOST comprises several departments and affiliated agencies, each specializing in different areas of science and technology. These include departments focused on basic research, high technology research and development, technological forecasting and planning, international cooperation, and policy and regulation.
The Minister of Science and Technology heads the ministry and reports to the State Council.
