Tikhonravov (crater)

Tikhonravov is a large impact crater located on the far side of the Moon. It lies in the equatorial region, to the southeast of the crater Jules Verne and northeast of the crater Siedentopf. Its selenographic coordinates are 0.7° N, 148.2° E, and it has a diameter of 93 kilometers.

The crater is named after Mikhail Klavdievich Tikhonravov, a Soviet rocket scientist and pioneer of space exploration. Tikhonravov made significant contributions to the development of early Soviet rockets and spacecraft.

Tikhonravov crater is relatively well-defined, with a somewhat eroded outer rim. The inner walls are terraced in places, and there are some minor impacts along the rim. The crater floor is relatively flat, with a small central peak formation. A few small craterlets mark the floor as well. Due to its location on the far side of the Moon, Tikhonravov crater is not visible from Earth.
