Roberto Ortiz (boxer)
Roberto Ortiz (born April 29, 1941) is a former Mexican professional boxer who competed from 1958 to 1972. He is a former WBC and WBA Light Welterweight Champion.
Ortiz, nicknamed "El Loco" ("The Crazy One"), began his professional career in Mexico. He captured the vacant WBC and WBA light welterweight titles by defeating Ismael Laguna by unanimous decision on May 15, 1965, at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. He defended his titles twice before losing them to Takeshi Fuji via a 15th-round TKO on April 30, 1967, in Tokyo, Japan.
Ortiz later attempted to regain the titles, facing Fuji in a rematch on December 14, 1967, but lost by a 15-round decision. He continued to fight professionally for several years, facing notable opponents such as Nicolino Locche and Carlos Hernandez, but never again held a major world title. He retired from boxing in 1972.
