Allen Buchanan (Medal of Honor)

Allen Buchanan (1876-1953) was a United States Army soldier who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Philippine-American War.

Born in Buffalo Gap, West Virginia, Buchanan served as a Private in Company I, 1st West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. On November 6, 1899, at Calamba, Luzon, Philippine Islands, Buchanan distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry under fire. He voluntarily left a secure position and, under heavy enemy fire, rescued a wounded soldier. For this act of bravery, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on July 19, 1902.

His citation reads: "Voluntarily left a secure position and, under a heavy fire from the enemy, assisted in carrying a wounded soldier to a place of safety."

Buchanan is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Section 13, Site 1269.
