Black Crusade (role-playing game)

Black Crusade is a tabletop role-playing game published by Fantasy Flight Games in 2011, as part of their Warhammer 40,000 role-playing game line. Unlike other games in the line, which focus on characters aligned with the Imperium of Man, Black Crusade allows players to take on the roles of Chaos Space Marines and other servants of the Ruinous Powers, actively working against the Imperium.

The game uses a modified version of the Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay system, also found in Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, Deathwatch, and Only War. This system is a percentile-based skill system, where players roll a d100 and attempt to roll under a skill's value.

The core gameplay revolves around pursuing personal agendas and seeking the favor of the Chaos Gods (Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Slaanesh), or possibly carving out their own independent destinies. Characters progress by gaining experience and acquiring new skills, talents, and equipment, ultimately becoming powerful agents of Chaos.

The game's setting primarily takes place within the Screaming Vortex, a region of warped space bordering the Eye of Terror, a massive warp rift in the galaxy. This area serves as a staging ground for incursions into the Imperium and a battleground for rival Chaos factions. Black Crusade provides a unique perspective on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, exploring the motivations and activities of those who have embraced the power of Chaos.

Supplements for the game expanded upon the core rules and setting, introducing new archetypes, powers, and threats.
