Ali Yafie
Ali Yafie (1 September 1926 – 20 February 2016) was an Indonesian Islamic scholar and intellectual. He served as the General Chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI) from 1990 to 1995. Yafie was known for his progressive interpretations of Islamic law and his engagement with contemporary social issues. He advocated for religious moderation and tolerance, and his work often explored the intersection of Islamic principles and modern life. His contributions to Islamic thought in Indonesia are significant, particularly in the areas of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and usul fiqh (principles of Islamic jurisprudence). He was also involved in various educational and social welfare organizations throughout his career.
