Crazy Horse (band)
Crazy Horse is an American rock band best known for their association with Neil Young. Formed in Los Angeles in the late 1960s, the band's lineup has varied over the years, but frequently included Billy Talbot (bass/vocals), Ralph Molina (drums/vocals), and Danny Whitten (guitar/vocals).
Originally known as The Rockets, the band began working with Neil Young in 1968, initially appearing on his album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere in 1969. Their raw, loose, and often ragged sound became an integral part of Young's musical identity, particularly on albums like After the Gold Rush, Tonight's the Night, and Rust Never Sleeps.
Crazy Horse has also released albums independently of Neil Young, including their self-titled debut Crazy Horse (1971), which featured the song "I Don't Want to Talk About It," later made famous by Rod Stewart. Other notable albums include Loose (1972) and At Crooked Lake (1972).
The band's sound is characterized by simple, often repetitive, guitar riffs, a driving rhythm section, and heartfelt vocals. Their music has been influential in the development of garage rock, grunge, and alternative rock.
Despite facing tragedies, including the death of Danny Whitten in 1972, Crazy Horse has continued to tour and record with and without Neil Young. The band's enduring appeal lies in their authentic, unpolished approach to rock and roll. Their continued collaboration with Neil Young has cemented their place as a significant force in rock music history.
