Virtua Fighter (TV series)
The Virtua Fighter TV series refers to two separate animated adaptations of the Virtua Fighter video game franchise.
The first, simply titled Virtua Fighter, is a 35-episode anime series that aired in Japan from 1995 to 1996. Produced by TMS Entertainment, it loosely adapts the plot of the early Virtua Fighter games, following the journey of Akira Yuki as he hones his martial arts skills and confronts various opponents, including his rival Kage-Maru, in a series of tournaments and adventures. The series places a heavier emphasis on action and character development compared to the source material, and introduces original storylines and characters.
A second, shorter animated series, Virtua Fighter: The Animated Series, consisting of 10 episodes, was released in 2006 as a CGI animated series. It features a more stylized art style and a narrative that more closely aligns with the later installments of the Virtua Fighter video game series. This series also focuses on Akira Yuki's martial arts training and battles, but with a greater emphasis on the technology and conspiracies surrounding the Virtua Fighter universe.
