British Lions (band)
British Lions were a British hard rock band formed in 1977 by former Mott the Hoople members Dale Griffin (drums), Pete Watts (bass), and Morgan Fisher (keyboards), along with vocalist and guitarist John Fiddler. The band was created following the departure of Ian Hunter and Mick Ralphs from Mott the Hoople.
British Lions released two studio albums: British Lions (1978) and Trouble With Women (1980). Their sound was a heavier, more straightforward hard rock compared to the glam rock and art rock influences present in Mott the Hoople.
Despite some initial success and touring, including supporting Status Quo, British Lions struggled to achieve widespread commercial success. Internal tensions and dissatisfaction with their management contributed to their eventual breakup in the early 1980s.
John Fiddler later pursued a solo career and has occasionally revisited British Lions material in his performances. Pete Watts later rejoined a reformed Mott the Hoople. Dale Griffin died in 2016.
