St. Wenceslas Church (Zderaz)
St. Wenceslas Church in Zderaz (Czech: Kostel svatého Václava na Zderaze) is a Roman Catholic church located in the New Town of Prague, Czech Republic. It stands on Zderaz Street and is a relatively small, single-nave church with Romanesque origins.
The church's history dates back to the 12th century, with the original structure being Romanesque. However, it underwent Gothic modifications in the 14th century. The church was part of a former Romanesque village called Zderaz, which later became incorporated into the New Town of Prague.
While smaller and less prominent than some of Prague's other churches, St. Wenceslas Church (Zderaz) holds historical and architectural significance. It showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, reflecting the architectural evolution of the area. The interior contains notable artwork and historical artifacts, though it is often open only for specific services or events.
Its name, of course, is dedicated to St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia. Over the centuries, the church has served the local community and remains an active place of worship today. Although comparatively unassuming, it stands as a tangible link to Prague's medieval past within the bustling modern city.
